Singer Sophie Gombya has opened up about one of the most disturbing experiences she\u2019s ever faced during her leadership at the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA)\u2014one day a female artist dumped a baby’s body at her office. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Sophie, the incident involved a struggling female artist from Iganga who had earlier reached out seeking help for her sick child admitted at Mulago hospital. Sophie, being the UMA president at the time, promised to see how the association could assist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what followed next left her traumatized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three days later, early on a Monday morning, the woman stormed her office carrying a travel bag. Calmly, she placed the bag on Sophie\u2019s desk and broke the devastating news that her child had passed away. She demanded financial assistance to transport the body to Iganga for burial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s worse is what happened next. After a heated exchange, the woman unzipped the bag right there\u2014and revealed the body of her dead child inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe day I quit office, there was an artist from Iganga who contacted me requesting assistance to support her sick child, who was at Mulago hospital,\u201d <\/em>Sophie painfully recalled. \u201cAfter three days, on a Monday morning, the girl stormed the office with a travel bag and placed it on the table. She introduced herself to me and told me how her child had eventually passed on. She demanded money to travel to Iganga for the burial. When I lost my cool, she opened the bag, and the corpse was lying in there.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s an experience that pushed Sophie to her limit and eventually influenced her decision to step away from UMA leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
