President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni<\/strong> has hit out at Ugandans who constantly bombard him with personal and community requests, saying the begging has become overwhelming and distracting from national priorities.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While addressing residents of Kamwenge district<\/strong> during his ongoing Parish Development Model (PDM)<\/strong> zonal tour on Sunday, the President did not mince words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don’t want you to keep disturbing me. Stop shouting at me while I am on the wheel driving,\u201d Museveni said.
\u201cI am in the driver\u2019s seat, but there are so many voices behind me, telling me what to do and how to drive. You will make me lose control.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The message was clear: Ugandans need to stop begging him for every little thing. From broken roads to personal favors, Museveni said citizens have made a habit of bringing endless demands that are not even budgeted for by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the rally, local leaders pleaded for repairs on key roads like Fort Portal-Kijura and Kyenjojo-Kamwenge, which need Shs 77 billion\u2014but Museveni stood firm, saying current focus is on fighting poverty through PDM and Emyooga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou people are always crying to me for things, but we are trying to lift those who are stuck in poverty,\u201d he added.
\u201cShould we abandon them because you want roads?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The President\u2019s frustration with the public\u2019s growing “begging culture” reflects a deeper concern as Uganda approaches the 2026 elections<\/strong>\u2014the pressure to deliver quickly on everything from infrastructure to social services is building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I addressed the leaders of the Tooro sub-region this afternoon in Kyegegwa District, where my message to them was to shift their focus from secondary issues and prioritise wealth creation at the household level as the most effective way to eradicate poverty across Uganda.
