The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially released the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results, painting a mixed picture of growing candidature and improved top performance, here’s how to check.

According to UNEB, a total of 817,883 candidates sat for the 2025 PLE from 15,388 centres, an increase from 797,444 candidates in 2024. Of these, 522,036 pupils from 11,525 centres were under Universal Primary Education (UPE), while 295,847 candidates from 3,863 centres came from private and non-UPE schools.

Speaking during the release, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo said the overall performance showed a slight improvement, especially at the top end. More candidates attained Grade One, meaning more learners are eligible to progress to secondary and vocational institutions compared to last year.

How to Check UNEB Results

Candidates and parents can access the 2025 PLE results through the following official methods:

1. SMS (Fastest Method – All Networks)
For PLE:
Type PLE space Full Index Number
Example: PLE 003301/368
Send to 6600

For UCE/UACE:
Type REG space Full Index Number
Example: REG U1234/501
Send to 6600

The SMS service costs approximately UGX 500–600. During peak hours, delays may occur.

2. Online Portal
Results can be accessed via the UNEB e-Results portal by entering the candidate’s index number. This option allows viewing or downloading results but may be slow during high traffic.

3. Through Schools
Schools will receive official UNEB results, which parents and candidates can collect once distribution is complete.

UNEB cautioned candidates to ensure index numbers are entered correctly to avoid errors. Some results may be withheld due to suspected malpractice, in which case schools are required to follow up with the board. UNEB also reminded the public that it does not issue duplicate certificates; instead, a Letter of Verification is provided for lost or damaged certificates.

With results now out, UNEB says the focus shifts to placement, skills development, and fixing classroom gaps to ensure learners are better prepared under the new curriculum.
