TikToker Mugisha Geoffrey, popularly known as Kempaka has finally been remanded to Luzira Prison following his appearance before Buganda Road Court on hate speech charges against the Kabaka.
Kempaka landed in hot water after a series of videos went viral, in which he hurled insults at the Baganda people and openly claimed to be Rwandan. His content particularly targeted Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi and the Buganda Kingdom, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
Among those who condemned his actions was businessman and political commentator Frank Gashumba, who labeled the remarks reckless and divisive.
Authorities acted swiftly, arresting Kempaka on charges related to hate speech and inciting tribal tension. During his court appearance, his attempt to secure bail fell through after his sureties failed to present the necessary documentation. He was therefore remanded to Luzira until further notice.
Kempaka now joins a growing list of TikTok personalities, including Madubala and Pressure 24/7, who have faced legal consequences for online content that violates Uganda’s laws on hate speech.
