Tragedy struck after a deadly road accident wiped out an entire family of 7 people in Lwengo District at around 4:30am at Njagalakasayi village along the Masaka–Mbarara Highway when their Toyota Fielder (UBH 476W) slammed head-on into an oncoming Fuso Fighter truck (UBP 510V).

All seven people in the car died on the spot. The victims have been identified as Ivan Burahi, his wife Brenda Ainembabazi, their four children, and Ivan’s brother.

According to preliminary police findings, the Toyota Fielder driver attempted a reckless overtake in a line of vehicles, leading to the fatal collision. The truck driver survived the crash.

Uganda Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said the accident highlights the growing danger on roads during the festive season, warning motorists against risky overtaking and unnecessary night travel.

The bodies were taken to Masaka City Mortuary for postmortem, while both vehicles were impounded to aid investigations.

The heartbreaking incident adds to the long list of fatal crashes recorded during the 2025 Christmas period, once again raising concerns about road safety during holidays.

A dark end to what should have been a season of joy.
