SC Villa Parts Ways With Head Coach Morley Byekwaso After Failing to Meet Expectations

SC Villa has officially confirmed the departure of head coach Morley Byekwaso, describing the split as a “mutual” agreement reached after “constructive discussions” between Byekwaso and the club’s bosses.

“This was a mutual decision, reached respectfully,” said SC Villa President Omar Ahmed Mandela, trying to keep it all clean and diplomatic. “We would like to thank Morley for his commitment and contribution to the club… He has done us proud.”

But proud might be a stretch. Byekwaso, who took over in 2024 following Serbian coach Dusan Stojanovic’s dramatic departure (after delivering that historic league title), was supposed to be the guy to bring long-term stability and a fresh, homegrown flavor to the Villa dugout.

Instead, the Jogoos finished a disappointing sixth in the Uganda Premier League this season, winning fewer games than their restless fanbase would care to remember. Nine defeats in 30 league games was just not cutting it for a club with Villa’s 17-time champion reputation.

This isn’t new territory for Byekwaso either. His time at KCCA also ended in frustration back in 2022. Critics have often pointed fingers at his overly cautious tactics and failure to spark consistent winning form wherever he’s gone.

Still, SC Villa gave him some credit for helping steady the ship after seasons of chaos both on and off the pitch. Now, the club says it’s on the hunt for a new coach to build on what’s left of that foundation.
