East Africa’s leading steel manufacturer, Roofings Group, has officially introduced a major change in the construction industry with the launch of its new e-commerce platform developed in partnership with global technology giant Tech Mahindra, to digitize the traditionally offline steel procurement process.
The launch, announced from the Roofings Rolling Mills in Namanve today (18th March 2026) marks a significant milestone in the company’s “Level 2 automation” journey, extending innovation from the production floor to the sales and service experience.
The newly unveiled platform allows customers, both local and international to browse an extensive range of products, including TMX 500c rebars, hollow sections, roofing sheets, and fencing materials, make purchases and payments online.
The new platform also offers real-time pricing which offers transparent, up-to-date market rates.
It also enables remote ordering making it possible to place orders from anywhere in the world without physical visits to showrooms.
Dr. Sikander Lalani, the Chairman of Roofings Group, emphasized that the platform is a “game-changer” for diaspora clients. Historically, Ugandans abroad have relied on intermediaries to manage construction projects, often facing risks of mismanagement.
The new system provides a secure, direct channel for the diaspora to buy materials and have them delivered directly to their sites.
“This represents a key milestone in our digital transformation journey,” Dr. Lalani noted, commending the technical expertise provided by Tech Mahindra in integrating AI, cloud services, and large-scale systems.
The Group CEO, Mr. Sheikh Arif, and Executive Director Oliver Lalani also highlighted that while the steel industry has traditionally been slow to adopt online retail, the growing demand for digital solutions made this move essential. Joseph Arinaitwe, the Group Sales Manager, added that the platform addresses long-standing challenges of accessibility, enabling seamless ordering via mobile phones or computers.
