According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, Christian Asiimwe, aka Don Chris, the same guy who was showing off on TikTok and calling himself a “tycoon”guy managed to defraud at least 85 Ugandans, robbing them of over Shs500 million through a fake travel company promising job placements in Canada, UK, Qatar, Dubai, and even Luxembourg.
Here’s how the scam worked:
Victims were told to pay between Shs3.5M and Shs10M to cover things like visa processing, tickets, medicals, and other “job-related fees.” To make it all look legit, Don Chris and crew handed out official-looking receipts, claimed it was a “soft loan” system, and told people they’d be flying out in two to six months.
Things went south when communication from the company suddenly dried up. The offices, which were initially in Ntinda, mysteriously relocated to Kitende. Phones went off. Refunds? Nowhere. And Don Chris? Completely vanished.
Eventually, victims took the matter to Minister Balaam Barugahara, who quickly escalated it to the Kampala Metropolitan CID boss. That’s when the police finally launched a full-blown investigation.

Now here’s where the story takes an even messier turn.
Despite being wanted by police, Don Chris recently jumped on TikTok Live, and instead of clearing his name, he started mocking his victims.
“I’m not afraid. I’ve been arrested several times,” he said casually. “You were supposed to receive your money on Friday, but you ran to social media. Let social media pay you now.”
And if that wasn’t unhinged enough, he even threw in this line: “If you all leave, who will vote for Museveni and Bobi Wine in the next elections?”
Bro.
Authorities are still trying to trace him — current reports say he may be hiding in Dubai — but the Ministry of Gender has warned that these types of scams are becoming way too common. In the past three years alone, more than 5,000 complaints have been filed against shady recruitment agencies, with total losses clocking over Shs10 billion.
Meanwhile, police are urging anyone else who may have been conned by Don Chris or his travel company to come forward and file an official report. The hunt is on, and the goal is to recover more funds — if any of it is even left.
