Songstress Rema Namakula has spoken out about critics who keep saying dancehall is “not her style,” making it clear she actually enjoys switching things up whenever she feels like because of the vibe it gives her.
Speaking in a recent interview, Rema revealed that although she is widely known for her soulful love songs and Afro-pop sound, she occasionally taps into dancehall — and she loves it.
“I’m told I’m not supposed to sing dancehall, but it gives me vibe,” Rema said, brushing off the criticism.
According to her, the energy she gets when performing such songs on stage is unmatched, and fans actually respond with excitement and happiness.
Rema, one of Uganda’s most consistent female artists, built her brand on emotional ballads and smooth vocals, but her recent moves show she’s not afraid to experiment.
Her dancehall side recently caught attention through her feature on Nigerian artist Orezi’s “Start to Dance (Remix)”, a high-tempo track that surprised many fans.
Still, as expected, not everyone is on board, with some insisting she should stick to her “lane.”

But if her latest comments are anything to go by, Rema is clearly not backing down.
