Ngora District Woman Member of Parliament Stella Apolot Isodo has died, just two days after losing her seat in the 2026 general elections.

Isodo passed away on Saturday at Kampala Hospital, where she had been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. Her death was confirmed by Ngora County MP Juliet Achayo Lodou.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) legislator had been battling illness throughout the election period, a situation that greatly affected her ability to actively campaign. Despite her condition, Isodo still contested in the highly competitive Ngora Woman MP race but was defeated by National Resistance Movement (NRM) newcomer Josephine Pedun, who garnered 17,010 votes against Isodo’s 11,334.

FDC President Patrick Amuriat revealed that Isodo had been flown abroad last year for specialised medical treatment, where she underwent surgery and later returned to Uganda with hopes of recovery.

“She underwent a successful surgery abroad and returned with hope of recovering well to start campaigns,” Amuriat said. He added that Isodo was unable to personally traverse the constituency during campaigns, leaving most of the work to her agents. “She would not have lost that seat if she were not sick,” he noted.

Beyond her role as Ngora Woman MP, Isodo also served as the spokesperson for the Teso Parliamentary Group and was widely respected for her dedication and ability to work across party lines.

Soroti City Speaker Juliet Agonyo described the period as particularly painful for Isodo’s family, noting that tragedy had struck twice in quick succession. “It’s a sad moment for her family because her stepbrother is being buried on Sunday, January 18, and now her,” she said.
