Fans of the NTV Uganda Friday news segment called Zungululu have been worried that they might loose the presenter, Ivan Kyeyune after becoming an elected Member of Parliament for Nakasongola County on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket but the station has spoken out.

Kyeyune is best known for hosting ‘Zungulu’, a weekly comic segment that highlights unusual and off-beat soft news stories, making him one of NTV’s most recognizable on-screen personalities.

His election victory marked a breakthrough after two previous failed attempts. However, the campaign period was marred by violence. On polling day, January 15, Kyeyune says he was attacked by armed men while attempting to rescue polling agents who had been rounded up, leaving him severely beaten and hospitalized.

Following his win, viewers and fans raised questions about the future of Zungulu and Kyeyune’s role at the station. Responding to the speculation, Flavia Tumusiime, Head of Broadcasting at Nation Media Group, said discussions were ongoing.

“We are still in talks with Onarebo,” Tumusiime said in response to a user on X.

Kyeyune becomes the third NTV journalist to enter Parliament in the past five years, following Agnes Nandutu, elected Bududa Woman MP, and Joel Ssenyonyi, MP for Nakawa West. Nandutu later served as Junior Minister for Karamoja Affairs, while Ssenyonyi rose to become Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.

For now, NTV has not indicated whether Kyeyune will continue appearing on air alongside his parliamentary duties.
