In an emotional public statement, Hajat Kulthum Nabunya, widow of the late Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata Batte, has officially announced the end of her marriage to businessman Acram Gumisiriza as tears rolled down her eyes.
Through a heartfelt letter shared with the public, Kulthum expressed how difficult it was to arrive at this decision, emphasizing the values of honesty, self-respect, and personal peace as the guiding reasons behind the move.
“I met Mr. Acram Gumisiriza in 2021 and we got married officially and legally in 2022,” she wrote. “Having lost my dear husband, the Late Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata Batte, I longed for companionship. That’s how I ended up marrying Mr. Gumisiriza. However, from the very start, I began noticing red flags.”
Kulthum explained that the decision to part ways was not made out of impulse, but rather after deep reflection, prayer, and soul-searching. Despite trying to work on their relationship, she said the emotional and spiritual gap between them only grew wider with time.
“This is not about blame,” she clarified. “It’s about acknowledging that we are no longer good for each other in the way that a partnership should be.”
She assured the public that the separation process will be handled with respect, maturity, and fairness, adding that she has involved respected religious leaders, including Sheikh Abdul Rahaman Serunjoji, and her family to oversee the process in accordance with Islamic teachings and cultural traditions.
Addressing the spiritual weight of ending a marriage, Kulthum noted, “Marriage was not only a personal commitment but also a sacred one. Ending it is not something I take lightly. I have prayed, reflected, and sought peace in my heart before coming to this conclusion.”
She also took time to thank her family, religious and cultural leaders, friends, the business community, and the Ugandan public for standing by her throughout her life journey.
“I regret to inform all those who wished our marriage well that the road has ended with immediate effect. I truly hope that in time, we can both find peace and happiness on our own separate paths,” she concluded.
