A huge fire broke out at Nakasero Market, ripping through several sections and leaving devastated traders counting heavy losses, what had been stalls full of produce were reduced to twisted metal, charred timber, and piles of ash.

The fire, which started shortly after midnight, reportedly spread fast through the congested market structures.

Firefighters scrambled to contain the flames as traders rushed to the scene in panic, many arriving only to find their goods already destroyed.

Authorities say the cause of the fire has not yet been established, and investigations are underway to determine what sparked the midnight disaster. Kampala City authorities and disaster response teams are also conducting an assessment to estimate the full extent of the damage, though early reports indicate losses running into millions.

Traders have pleaded for government support as they try to absorb the shock of losing entire businesses overnight.
