There’s serious tension brewing up after popular Catholic priest Father Deogratias Kiibi Kateregga publicly warning Muslim scholar Sheikh Burhan Kiti to stay in his lane.
In a strongly worded post that’s now making rounds on social media, Father Kiibi didn’t hold back, telling Sheikh Kiti to stop attacking things he doesn’t understand.
“Dear Sheikh Kiti, life is short. Stop attacking what you don’t understand,” Father Kiibi wrote. Word on the street is that this clapback came after Sheikh Kiti allegedly made statements criticizing Christian teachings and practices, sparking frustration from some Christian faithful.
While the exact comments from Sheikh Kiti haven’t been fully quoted, insiders claim he’s been making media rounds throwing shade at Christian leaders and diving into matters outside the Muslim community — something that clearly didn’t sit well with Father Kiibi.
Now, if you know Father Kiibi, you know the man doesn’t sugarcoat anything. His bold response has sparked all kinds of reactions — some people are calling for calm and unity between religious groups, while others are standing firmly behind Kiibi, accusing Sheikh Kiti of always stirring drama in the name of debate.
The two clerics have disagreed before, but this time, things feel a bit more heated, with even national religious leaders stepping in. The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda is now reportedly planning a private sit-down to cool the temperatures and hopefully restore some peace between the two sides.
