Police has confirmed arresting Eva Mababazi, a woman believed to be the last person to see the late Dr. John Spire Kiggundu alive inside Dream Guest House Lubowa where he was found mysteriously dead.
The woman, identified as Eva Mbabazi, said to be in her early 20s, was picked up by security operatives after CCTV footage captured her leaving the room at Dream Guest House in Lubowa, where the respected gynecologist was found dead shortly after checking in.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Dr. Kiggundu arrived at the guest house at 5:45 PM on June 21, 2025. Footage reportedly shows Mbabazi entering the premises and leaving the doctor’s room about an hour before his body was discovered.
“Eva Mbabazi has been arrested, and her statement has been recorded,” Onyango confirmed. “A general inquiry file has been opened and forwarded to the state attorney for further guidance.”

Her arrest follows growing speculation on social media, where her name had been widely mentioned as the last person seen with the deceased doctor.
Although a postmortem conducted earlier indicated Dr. Kiggundu died of natural causes—specifically acute cardiomyopathy—police say investigations are still ongoing due to the sensitive nature of the case and public interest.
Authorities emphasized that Mbabazi’s arrest is part of routine procedure to ensure all angles are examined. Final conclusions will only be made after a full forensic and legal review.

Dr. Kiggundu’s passing has left a huge gap in Uganda’s medical fraternity, with many remembering him as a pioneer in maternal health and fertility care.
