Lugonjo Nakiwogo in Entebbe is reeling in shock and fear after a quiet, elderly couple was found gruesomely murdered in their own home, a full-blown double homicide that has left neighbors in shock.
The victims, 69-year-old Mutaaga David and his wife 62-year-old Deborah Florence Mutaaga, were discovered early Saturday morning, lifeless and soaked in blood, each with deep stab wounds that police say point to a “brutal and senseless” attack.
The alarm was first raised by a household worker who sensed something wasn’t right — the gate was mysteriously wide open and the home, usually alive with gentle morning chatter, had fallen eerily silent.
By the time police arrived, the crime scene was something out of a horror movie.
“The couple was found inside the house, both dead with deep stab wounds,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police’s ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, visibly shaken himself. Forensic teams combed through the home, collecting potential evidence before transporting the bodies to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem.
At this point, investigators aren’t ruling anything out, but the leading theory is aggravated robbery. Still, police believe there was intent — and whoever did it wanted them gone.
“We’re following all leads. But this wasn’t random,” ASP Owoyesigyire told reporters. “This was cold. Calculated.”
The neighborhood is shaken, scared, and furious.
“These were kind people. Quiet people. They’ve lived here for years. Now they’re dead in their own house?” one neighbor lamented, adding, “If this can happen to them, what about us?”
Enraged residents have called on police for protection and swift justice, and the pressure is on. A full-blown manhunt is now underway, with detectives reportedly zeroing in on potential suspects.
ASP Owoyesigyire promised one thing: “We will not rest until the killers are behind bars.”
