The Ekyooto Ha Mpango Festival is officially underway in Fort Portal, running from September 10th to 13th, 2025. Day one started in grand style with a royal tour led by King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, his sister Princess Ruth Komuntale, and their mother Queen Best Olimi Kemigisa, who were joined by partners, friends, and well-wishers on a special trip around Tooro Kingdom.
The first stop was the King Oyo Model Farm in Bugaaki Sub-county, a project that speaks volumes about the King’s dream for a modern and self-reliant Tooro. The farm mixes tradition with modern farming techniques, showing young people that agriculture isn’t just survival—it’s a path to wealth and opportunity. Guests walked the fertile land, saw farmers at work, and got a real feel of the King’s hands-on vision.
From there, the royal entourage headed to Kiko Tea Plantation, one of Uganda’s biggest tea estates under the Madhvani Group. With its roots dating back to colonial times, Kiko is proof of Tooro’s role in making Uganda a tea powerhouse. Guests enjoyed the fresh tea-scented air as workers skillfully plucked tender leaves destined for teacups around the world.
Later, Hon. Alex Ruhunda hosted a luncheon at his residence before the celebrations shifted to Karuzika Palace for the grand Presidential CEO Forum Dinner. Over 500 CEOs showed up for the royal gala, rubbing shoulders and exchanging ideas in a night that mixed culture with business networking.
The Ekyooto Ha Mpango Festival is powered by Uganda Tourism Board, Pilsner Lager, Talent Africa Group, Plascon, Movit, MTN, NBS TV, Pepsi, Ministry of Tourism, Uganda Wildlife Authority, Branny Nails Kampala, and the Microfinance Support Center. The four-day celebration will continue to showcase Tooro’s rich culture while promoting tourism and agriculture in the kingdom.
