Singer and Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president Eddy Kenzo has sparked a heated debate after revealing that artistes who support the National Unity Platform (NUP) will not be allowed to access funds from the federation’s SACCO.

During an interview with a local YouTuber, Kenzo made it clear that the SACCO funds are meant for artistes who align with the ruling NRM government, since that’s where the financial support originated.

“For me I support NRM and my vice president Pallaso supports NUP, but no funds from the federation SACCO will be given to a NUP supporter. It’s like funding your enemy to attack you,” Kenzo stated.

He further explained that if the billions in the SACCO had come from NUP, then artistes from that camp would also be free to borrow. However, since the money was sourced through the NRM-led government, he believes only those loyal to it should benefit.

Kenzo’s comments have since caused a storm on social media, with critics accusing him of turning the federation into a political tool instead of a unifying body for all Ugandan musicians.
