There were disturbing moments at Masaka Magistrate’s Court today morning (May 20, 2025) as Edward Sebuufu, widely known as Eddie Mutwe, appeared visibly shaken and frail, struggling to stand as he presented alleged torture wounds to the court.
Mutwe, who is a longtime bodyguard of opposition leader Bobi Wine, looked shiverish and distressed during his appearance before Grade One Magistrate Abdallah Kayiza. He lifted his shirt and arms, revealing what he claimed were fresh torture marks, reportedly sustained while in custody.
Addressing the court, Mutwe pleaded for immediate medical attention, stating he could “barely stand on his own” and is currently being given up to 12 painkillers a day in prison just to manage the pain.
“This comrade needs to be in a hospital, not a prison cell,” said one of the visibly concerned opposition members present at court.
His emotional state and the visible signs of pain have sparked renewed outcry from opposition figures and human rights advocates, demanding that Mutwe be granted access to urgent medical care.
The case continues to go down amidst growing concern over the treatment of political detainees in Uganda.
