Bukedde TV presenter Betty Nampijja was overcome with emotions during a live broadcast as she opened up about a traumatic armed robbery she survived in the early hours of Wednesday morning as she got back home at 4am.
Visibly shaken, Nampijja recounted the harrowing experience that unfolded around 4 a.m., just after she had returned home from covering the weekly jam sessions organized by the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), led by singer Eddy Kenzo. The sessions often draw various public figures, including fellow journalists.
According to Nampijja, she was ambushed at gunpoint by two armed robbers who forced their way into her home. Inside, they looted everything within sight — from money to her television set — leaving her in a state of deep shock. Fortunately, she was left physically unharmed, but the emotional toll was clearly evident as she narrated the ordeal.
“I’m thankful to be alive,” she said through tears. “They didn’t touch me, but they took everything. I’m still trying to process the fear I felt.”
The incident has sparked concern among her fans and colleagues, with many taking to social media to express sympathy and call for increased security for media personalities who often work late hours.
Despite the trauma, Betty Nampijja expressed gratitude for life and urged others to remain vigilant, especially when returning home during late hours.
