Bugiri Municipality legislator Hon. Asuman Basalirwa is currently under pressure after National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine, called on residents to vote him out in the 2026 general elections.
While addressing a rally in Bugiri, Bobi Wine accused Basalirwa of abandoning the oppressed Ugandans and instead “dining with the oppressors.” He urged locals to rally behind NUP’s flag bearer, Macelino Egesa Mangeni, whom he described as the only hope for true representation in Bugiri.
Reports reaching Blizz Uganda indicate that Basalirwa has been steadily losing ground support, not only in Bugiri but also within his own JEEMA party. Party insiders accuse him of being a government spy and refusing to hand over party leadership due to his alleged ties with State House.
A teacher by profession, Basalirwa is said to be struggling financially, with sources pointing to the burden of caring for two wives as one of the reasons he chose to work closely with the government instead of fighting it.

With NUP already sharpening its knives in Bugiri, all eyes are now on how Basalirwa will defend his political seat come 2026.
