National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has received public support from senior Buganda Kingdom officials as he prepares for his 2026 State House campaign.
A delegation led by former Katikkiro Owek. Joseph Mulwanyammuli Ssemwogere, Owek Dan Muliika, and Mbogo clan leader Omutaka Kayiira Gajuule visited Kyagulanyi at his residence in Magere.
They conveyed the Kabaka of Buganda’s goodwill and blessings, signaling the Kingdom’s support for his political ambitions.
Kyagulanyi expressed optimism following the visit, stating that he now feels “blessed and set” to pursue his objective of challenging President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming elections.
Photographs from the meeting have sparked debate, with some ruling party supporters reportedly unsettled by the symbolic endorsement from prominent Buganda figures.
The development comes after a history of tense relations between NUP and Buganda officials. Previously, NUP supporters criticized the Kingdom for perceived neutrality, particularly during the tenure of Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.
