The Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has flexed her political muscle once again, this time thrashing none other than former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga in the hotly contested NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections.
Results announced on August 21, 2025, by NRM Electoral Commission boss Dr. Tanga Odoi, show Among sweeping the race for NRM Second National Vice-Chairperson (Female) with a whopping 11,680 votes (92.8%), while Kadaga only managed 902 votes (7.2%). Out of 12,582 votes cast, Among was the clear people’s choice.
The elections went down at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds during the party’s National Delegates’ Conference, where other heavyweights also battled it out for CEC positions.
Among the notable winners:
- Former gov’t spokesperson Ofwono Opondo snatched the flag for MP Older Persons in Eastern, kicking out Minister Dominic Gidudu Mafabi.
- Rtd Lt Moses Mushabe is now NRM CEC boss for the Veterans League.
- Ann Ruyondo Lumumba grabbed Secretary of Finance, NRM Women’s League.
- Adrine Kobusingye is the new Chairperson of the Women’s League.
- Arinaitwe Rwakajara carried the day as Workers MP flagbearer and Chairperson of the Workers League.
- Shafik Mwanje won Chairperson of the PWDs League.
- Penina Busingye Kabingani took the Elders’ League.
Meanwhile, drama sparked when President Museveni suspended elections for the Entrepreneurs League after accusations of bribery rocked the contest between businessmen Hassan Basajjabalaba and Ceasar Mulenga.

For now, though, the biggest takeaway is clear—Anita Among has stamped her authority, and Kadaga’s defeat is the latest twist in their never-ending political rivalry.
