Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Alliance of Ugandan Canadian Associations (NAUCA) in a move aimed at strengthening diaspora investment and legal support for Ugandans living in Canada.
The partnership is expected to streamline how Ugandans abroad invest back home, with a strong focus on transparency, compliance, and long-term wealth protection.
According to the agreement, Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates will serve as NAUCA’s official legal advisory partner in Uganda, providing guidance on property acquisition, business setup, joint ventures, estate planning, and dispute prevention, among other services.
The development comes at a time when diaspora remittances remain a key driver of Uganda’s economy, contributing an estimated USD 1.5 billion (about UGX 6.5 trillion) in the 2024/2025 financial year.
Speaking after the signing, Chief Executive Partner Counsel Deo Kalikumutima said the collaboration will help bridge longstanding gaps that have limited diaspora investment.
“For far too long, our diaspora brothers and sisters have sought meaningful opportunities to invest back home; they simply lacked a trusted and structured pathway,” he said.
“We are proud to serve as that bridge under NAUCA.”

As part of the partnership, the law firm will participate as both sponsor and legal partner at the inaugural NAUCA Business & Cultural Convention set for October 9–11, 2026, in Vancouver, Canada.
The convention is expected to bring together investors, professionals, policymakers, and members of the Ugandan diaspora to explore business opportunities, promote cultural exchange, and strengthen trade ties between Uganda and Canada.
NAUCA President Justus Mirembe emphasized the importance of trust in diaspora investment, noting that many Ugandans abroad remain cautious due to unclear processes and investment risks.
“Through this partnership, we are providing legally enforceable protections, clear guidance, and dependable support at every stage,” he said.
Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates will also conduct legal advisory clinics during the convention, focusing on secure investment structuring, due diligence, and safeguarding family wealth. Additional support will include immigration advisory services for Ugandans seeking temporary residency in Canada.
NAUCA is a diaspora-focused organization that works to strengthen economic and social ties between Ugandans in Canada and their home country, while Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates is a Kampala-based full-service law firm specializing in investment protection and corporate legal services.
