Ugandan entrepreneur and co-founder of Chuka Pharmacy, Abel Mwenda, has handed over a consignment of medical supplies to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to support ongoing Tarehe Sita medical outreaches across the country.

The donation, which was lobbied from Salud Pharmacy, was officially presented earlier today at the Pan-African Women’s Organization (PAWO) offices in Kampala. The handover was facilitated by Lt Eng Yesero Kunya Allan, Political Commissar for the UPDF-Air Force, and received by Lt Dr Aine on behalf of the UPDF Joint Staff Health Services.

Lt Dr Aine welcomed the contribution and assured that the supplies would be used transparently to benefit communities targeted under the outreach programme.

Speaking at the event, Mwenda praised the evolution of the UPDF, describing it as a professional and disciplined force committed to national service.

The UPDF has grown from a small group of committed patriots into one of the most respected defense forces on the African continent, professional, disciplined, and dedicated to the well-being of the people of Uganda,” Mwenda said. “I am proud to support their mission and pledge to continue lobbying for more resources to ensure our forces are well-equipped to serve the wananchi.”

The donation comes as part of activities marking the 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations, which were held on February 6 in Kabale District under the leadership of the Joint Staff Political Commissar, Major General Henry Masiko. The annual commemoration highlights Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), with medical camps and community outreach forming a central component of the week-long activities.

Abel Mwenda, is also the co-founder of Guild Pharmacy Ltd and a large-scale farmer with investments in coffee production and livestock, including goats and cattle. He holds academic qualifications from Makerere University and Multec Business School and has consistently advocated for inclusive national development.

Tarehe Sita, Swahili for “The Sixth Day,” marks February 6, 1981, the date when the National Resistance Army launched the liberation struggle. It is now observed annually as a period of reflection, community service and celebration of Uganda’s progress toward peace and socio-economic transformation.
