According to Uganda Police, a over 350 Ugandans have officially filed complaints against Skypins Tours and Travel, owned by self-proclaimed tycoon Christian Asiimwe, aka Don Chris. The total amount being claimed totaling to UGx.1.4 billion!
The complaints are flooding in from frustrated youth across the country who allege that they were duped into paying hefty fees for non-existent job placements abroad — mostly in Europe and the Gulf. Some say they paid up to Shs10 million each for visas, medicals, air tickets, and “soft loans” to secure jobs they never saw.
But still not everyone was left in the dust. Police say at least seven individuals have come forward confirming they did successfully travel through Skypins. That little detail is now complicating the case.
“At this point, we cannot conclusively call the company fraudulent,” Police said. “Some people did get services. That’s why it’s crucial we hear from Mr. Asiimwe himself.”
As calls for justice grow louder, Police are urging Don Chris to voluntarily show up and record a statement. He’s currently believed to be hiding out in Dubai, after taunting victims in viral TikTok clips claiming he can’t be touched.
Stay tuned. The Don might still have a lot to answer for.
