Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has joined the Tooro Royal Family, Tooro Kingdom and the people of Uganda in mourning the death of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, while celebrating his three-decade reign and contribution to the Kingdom.
Representing UBL at the King’s final farewell were Sheilla Sabune, Corporate Relations Director at UBL, alongside Brand Managers Lillian Kansiime and Edgar Kihumuro.
On behalf of the company’s Board, Management and staff, Sabune extended condolences to the Queen Mother, the Royal Family, the leadership of Tooro Kingdom and all those mourning the late monarch.
“The passing of the Omukama is a great loss to Tooro Kingdom and to Uganda. We have lost a King who carried the identity and history of his people for three decades,” Sabune said.
Throughout his reign, King Oyo became a prominent symbol of Tooro’s identity, culture and pride. UBL said his leadership extended beyond the traditional responsibilities of the Crown, with attention to the wellbeing and development of his people.
A Legacy of Service and Development
In a separate condolence message, Felicité Nson, Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited, described King Oyo as a steadfast custodian of Tooro’s heritage, culture and aspirations.
She highlighted his commitment to areas including education, environmental conservation, tourism and community development, which she said directly impacted the lives and future of his people.
“His Majesty’s commitment to the advancement of his people leaves a legacy that will endure for generations,” Felicité said.
UBL also highlighted King Oyo’s support for young people, education, tourism, sport and community initiatives as part of his broader vision for a stronger and more empowered Kingdom.
UBL and Tooro Kingdom Partnership
For Uganda Breweries, King Oyo’s death also represents the loss of a valued partner.
The company has worked with Tooro Kingdom and Talent Africa Group on initiatives aimed at supporting communities, strengthening partnerships and creating opportunities for young people across the Kingdom.
One of the key areas of collaboration has been Learning for Life, UBL’s skills development programme, which equips young people with practical skills intended to improve access to employment and support sustainable livelihoods.
“His Majesty’s vision reached young people who needed it most. Under his leadership, hundreds of youth in Tooro gained real skills and real jobs through partnerships built on trust,” Sabune said.
King Oyo’s Love for Sport
Beyond his role as monarch, King Oyo was also known for his interests and connection with the people of Tooro.
He was a passionate football fan and an Arsenal supporter. He also took an interest in the Amasaza Cup, Tooro Kingdom’s football tournament, where he championed young sporting talent from across the Kingdom.
His presence at sporting events offered a different side of the monarch, reflecting his interest in the talents and activities of his people.
UBL said these moments contributed to making his leadership feel personal and accessible to many, beyond his role as custodian of Tooro’s heritage.
UBL Reaffirms Commitment to Tooro
As Tooro Kingdom mourns its late monarch, Uganda Breweries has reaffirmed its solidarity with the Royal Family, Kingdom leadership and the people of Tooro.
The company said King Oyo’s legacy will be remembered through the people and communities touched by his leadership and the causes he championed.
Felicité Nson extended her condolences to the Royal Family and people of Tooro.
“At this time of great sorrow, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Royal Family and the people of Tooro. May they find strength and comfort as we honour the life, service and legacy of His Majesty,” she said.
UBL said it will continue to value its partnerships with Tooro Kingdom and Talent Africa Group, supporting initiatives focused on community development and opportunities for young people in the Kingdom.
As Tooro begins a new chapter following King Oyo’s death, Uganda Breweries has joined the Kingdom and the wider nation in honouring a monarch who spent three decades on the throne and whose reign was closely associated with Tooro’s heritage, culture and development.
