Uganda Martyrs Beats Uganda Christian University to reach finals of University Football League

Former champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) became the first team to reach the final of the 2022 Pepsi University Football League after eliminating defending champions Uganda Christian University (UCU).

Sunny Kaija scored the only goal of the game as Uganda Martyrs edged UCU 1-0 in the second leg of the semifinal tie played in Nkozi on Thursday.

This ensured that the hosts equaled this encounter having lost by the same scoreline in the first leg played in Mukono a week ago.

After a 1-1 stalemate on aggregate the game went into the penalty shootouts and it is Uganda Martyrs that won it 5-4 and it is once again Kaija that scored the decisive penalty.Uganda Martyrs return to the final for the first time since 2017 when they went all the way and won their only Pepsi University Football League title at the expense of two-time champions Makerere University Business School- 2-0.

Uganda Martyrs will play the victor between St. Lawrence Universityand MUBS in the final that is scheduled for 12th November 2022 at Lugogo.

St. Lawrence edged MUBS 2-1 in the first leg of the other semifinal on Tuesday in Kavule, they will meet again next week on Tuesday, November 1st in Nakawa for the second leg.
