The tournament of provinces, FUFA the drum is returns this weekend after a two year COVID-19 recess with four fixtures, two on Saturday and the other on Sunday.
The most eye catching will be between Lango and Ankole regions at John Akii Bua Stadium.2019 runners up (Lango) named former Uganda Cranes player and captain David Obua as their head coach and it will be interesting seeing how the former Kaiser Chiefs forward will handle the side who lost to Acholi in the 2019 finals.
Ankole are under experienced tactician Viali Bainomugisha and will also be vying for their maiden title as they kick off the tournament.
Obua’s side will depend on Star players like Denis Omedi, Moses Aliro, Joakim Ojera, Emmanuel Okech, Isaac Okello and the rest whereas Ashraf Mugume, Charles Musiige,Otim Denis are some of the marquee names to point out at the Ankole pronvince.
Kampala pronvince under experienced coach Fred Kajoba will make a trip to Boma grounds for a clash with Abbey Kikomeko’s Bukedi pronvince. Bukedi boasts of KCCA’s duo of John Revita and Julius Poloto, Fredson Gwoto of Bul FC and Ronald Musana and Kampala will rely on Travis Mityana, Gavin Kizito Mugweri, Martin Kiira and the rest.
The FUFA Drum tournament started in 2018 with only two editions (2018 and 2019) being played thus far. The tournament was forced into recess by the out break of the global pandemic, the COVID-19and its return is set to be embraced as much chants were seen in the last two editions.
The tournament is aimed at promoting football in the rest of the parts of the country and it is in line with origins, the theme being, “Celebrating our Ancestry”.
Buganda were the inaugural winners (2018) with Acholi wining the second in 2019 and it remains to be seen who will win the third edition.
