It is on a sad notice that the chairman of the Buganda Masaza Cup organizing Committee Mr Ssejjengo Sulaiman has on Saturday 23rd July 2022 been arrested and detained in Kooki before match with Butambala.
Kooki is Subnational Chiefdom under Buganda Kingdom and currently led by Kamuswaga Apollo Sansa Kabumbuli II but has in this season been defiant to the Masaza tournament under the orders of it is leader.
Kooki who have played the last 17 editions of Masaza Cup and won it in 2006 have this time round under the command of their leader Kamuswaga been denied to play all the three home matches which include Kabula, Buwekula plus today’s match against Butambala and have only played one match away from home against Gomba.
Kamuswaga wants to be the sole command giver in what he considers his kingdom. Kooki ceased to exist as an independent state in 1896 when it merged into the British Protectorate of Buganda.
However, on 27th July, 2015, the Kooki Kingdom declared independence from Buganda but it wasn't recognized by Buganda or Uganda.
