Ailing Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze Bakireke is responding positively to medical treatment in United States of America Blizz Uganda has learned.
Nambooze, the National Unity Platform (NUP) party member was flown to the US for specialized medical attention last month after recommendations from consultants to the government given the worrying health condition of the outspoken legislator.
This was after Nambooze was hospitalised having fallen down twice at her home, making her condition worse.
After paying her a visit at Rubaga hospital Kampala by the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among and met her medical team attending to her and assured utmost support to ensure that she gets proper medical attention.
According to the Kampala city Lord Mayor, Sssalongo Erias Lukwago who has managed to hear from the bedridden patient, he has through his socials shared the good news how the legislator is responding to treatment at a certain hospital in Manhattan, USA.
"Away from the labyrinthine debate about the "pumpkin" politics, it's heartening to learn that my dear sister the Hon. Mp Bakireke Nambooze is now positively responding to medication at some facility in Mannhattan. Many thanks to the team of physicians who have conducted thorough investigations into her health complications. We continue to pray for you nyabo."- Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
In November 2017, Nambooze, 52 underwent surgery at Manipal Hospital in India after doctors found out that she had suffered from spinal compression. The doctors advised her not to sit for long lest she stress her spinal cord and suffer more problems. They told her she would not fully recover until two to three years after the surgery.
This was after being treated for a month at Bugolobi medical Centre following an injury she sustained during the fracas in Parliament on September 27 when the then Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi (now Local Government Minister) tabled the bill which later saw the removal of age limits for presidential candidates in the constitution.
