Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi has pledged UGX 5M to each of the three Ugandan Boxers to feature in the Tokyo Olympics.

Tokyo Olympics 2020, is an upcoming international multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.

It was initially meant to take place from 24th July to 9th August 2020, the event was then postponed in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moses Muhangi on his Facebook account wrote this, "I promised 5m, 3m, and 1m for the winners of Gold, Silver and Bronze medal respectively plus 2.5m for each Coach for a medal won,"

Uganda will be represented by three Boxers at the event, two men and one lady. They include Catherine Nanziri (flyweight), Sadiq musa Bwogi (welterweight) and David Ssemujju Kavuma(middleweight).

In July 2020, Shadiq Bwogi Musa, the Bombers captain won the inaugural edition of the Shadow Boxing Challenge organized by UBF and cashed in Shs 1,000,000 as a reward. He was the only Ugandan to qualify for the event via African Qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal, in February 2020.

Catherine Nanziri will be the first Ugandan to feature in Olympics. Boxing in Uganda as regards to women had faded with the last success seen more than 15 years ago at the inaugural African Women Championship in Cairo in 2001. That time, it was Irene Ssemakula and Mariam Nalukwago (RIP) who represented Uganda with the latter managing a Gold medal. They are no more currently.
