Midfielder cum left back Mike Azira is the latest Uganda Cranes player to retire from national football.
In a written to FUFA President Eng. Moses letter dated 14th April, 2021, Mike Azira indicates that his retirement take place with immediate effect.
Part of the letter had this to read;
"Please accept this letter as a notification that I wish to retire from playing for the national football team effective April 14,2021. Playing for the national team has been an honor and I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to represent my country and my family".
His retirement comes a few days after Hassan Waswa and Dennis Onyango all announced retirement.
I have enjoyed working with the federation and playing for the Uganda national team. Playing in two Africa Cup of Nations was one the best moments with the Cranes. These memories will always stay with me and they will be cherished always."
Their retirement follows incidents of fall ups between former Cranes player Mike Sulaiman Mutyaba and FUFA boss Magogo with the former claiming the latter swindles players'money.
Magogo replied with rudely claiming players in CHAN don't deserve a penny for they played "Shitty football."
This was followed up with comments from former Cranes player Hassan Waswa claiming the conditions at the national team are untold and that there is a lot of selfishness before Onyango said FUFA was exposed and for Magogo's response, he would get players to play for him the world cup qualiers. Onyango also resigned following Hassan Waswa and the latest retirement is of Mike Azira.
