Rukungiri police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a senior candidate of Rukungiri high school - just a day before the completion of her Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams.

Brenda Ankunda's lifeless body was retrieved from Kahengye stream on Thursday afternoon and taken to Rwakabengo health centre III for postmortem. According to family sources, the deceased allegedly left school to return home and prepare for her last paper on Friday.

The school headteacher, Robert Mbasa, says that they waited for the student to return and seat the Kiswahili paper in vain.

“We sent Brenda home last week to prepare herself and come back for her last paper today [Friday]. We waited up to 11:00 am and decided to contact her family members but they were also surprised that she left for school on Monday evening,” the headteacher said.

Victor Arimpa, the officer in charge of criminal investigations at Rukungiri police told URN that they have commenced investigations to establish how the student died.

On the same day on Thursday, a senior six female student of Comprehensive College Kitetika in Kitetika Zone in Kasangati town council in Wakiso district was also found dead inside the dormitory ceiling.

18-year-old, Jane Nabikolo's body was found lying face down inside the dormitory ceiling. She had also reportedly asked for permission to seek medical care on March 21 but stayed at school even after she was granted permission.
