The 79 year old Makerere University Main Administration Building known as Ivory Tower has caught fire in the late night hours as the University was gearing up for re-opening.
“The Main Building – Ivory Tower has caught fire,” Makerere University announced on Sunday morning and that the fire brigade is on ground.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. The building is considered one of Uganda’s most famous landmarks.
Makerere said Police Fire Brigade were; “trying to put out the fire which has now covered almost half of the roof. It’s a trying moment for us.”
