Pallisa woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Faith Alupo has today Tuesday afternoon died while giving birth to a newborn at Mulago referral hospital in the capital, Kampala.
Alupo’s death has been confirmed by parliament in a brief statement. Although health Ministry officials attribute her death to the novel Corona virus disease, a source in the family disputes the allegations and maintains that their relative suffered labour complications at Mulago where she was hospitalised. It is believed that the female legislator, who was pregnant at the time, was diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes and obese.
However, if the Health Ministry’s covid allegations are valid, then Hon. Alupo (RIP) will be the first Ugandan legislator to succumb to the novel Corona virus disease.
It should be remembered that parliament recently tasked all legislators to undergo mandatory COVID-19 testing. However, sources in parliament say only a handful of legislators complied but a good majority defied as they stressed they were being held up with political activities in their respective constituencies.
Alupo Faith was born on October, 9 1983. She has been a Menber of Parliament, representing the Pallisa District. She was elected to that position in June 2018. Alupo was declared and confirmed the new Member of Parliament for Pallisa district under the ruling NRM party after Achola Catherine Osupelem, the FDC Woman Member of Parliament Candidate for Pallisa district was disqualified by the electoral commission from the race for using nomination names that did not tally with those on her academic qualification.
