Police has officially announced its first signing in Tonny Mawejje as they prepare for the 2020/21 season after unveiling him by the club chairman Asan Kasingye at Police headquaters where he penned a 2 year contract with “The Cops.”
Kasingye said, “We no longer just want to compete, we need to win trophies. We are a former champions and its time to think big. Football is a big enterprise in the world that doesn’t entertain mediocrity. We need to do the right thing like other clubs.”
Kasingye added that its time to get sponsors because Police is a big organisation and many people want to be part of it. On Mawejje, the chaiman said: “He brings a lot of experience, dicipline and a sign of commitment to the club. I also thank Tonny for chosing us as he would have gone to other clubs! He was at his prime but he chose Police and he plays with one heart. I take this opportunity to welcome you back to the family.”
Mawejje said; "I’m so happy to be back at Police FC, the team which i played for in 2006 when we won CECAFA. I’m happy to re-unite with my family as I have so much history and great memories here."
Police FC finished the 2019/2020 on the relegation line with 25 points from 8 wins, 4 draws and 13 losses. Tonny Mawejje joins the 2005 Uganda Premier League Champions with vast experience having played for Kampala City Council FC (2004–2005), Uganda Revenue Authority SC (2008–2009),
ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar-Iceland (2009–2013), Golden Arrows (loan-2012) among other clubs.
