In the video conference meeting held on Tuesday 30th June, 2020, Confederation of African Football- CAF, reached a decision to cancel the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations that was scheduled to be held in 2021 and postponed the tournament to the following year still in Cameroon.

The decision was made depending on the persistent COVID-19 pandemic that has greatly affected sport globally.

Algeria are the reigning champions of Africa Cup of Nations having beaten Senegal 1:0 courtesy of a second minute strike from Baghdad Bounedjah last year.

The other decision reached, was the approval of a $300,000 COVID-relief plan to all 54 member associations of Africa's football governing body to help the affiliated associations in the midst of the pandemic.

The 2020 CAF awards were also cancelled for the same reasons. This means Liverpool's forward and Senegal international Sadio Mane remains Africa's Best Player until the awards are re-staged.
