The curtains are set to be raised on Wednesday as the group stages of the 2020 Pepsi University Football League with reigning champions Uganda Christian University (UCU) in action tomorrow Wednesday afternoon when they host Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) at their Mukono campus.

UCU enjoyed their most successful football season last year winning both the Pepsi University Football League trophy in November 2019 and football gold at the AUUS University Games less than a month later in December 2019.

They will however have a much changed squad from last season’s owing to the departures of over eight (8) first team players who have either graduated or played the maximum of four (4) seasons or attained the maximum age of 25 years. These include Kaye Kizito Ezra, Ssemambo Jerome James, Wadribo Eric, Adriko Vincent, Kakembo Joseph and Mbowa Derrick as well as Oyam Timothy and Lubega Mohammed who joined Premier League sides Police FC and URA FC respectively.

For IUIU tomorrow’s game is a chance to avenge their loss to UCU in the football final of the AUUS University Games at Kisubi in December. UCU won that game 2-1 thanks to goals from Oyam Timothy and Kaye Kizito.
