Celebrated Ugandan songwriter Mozy Wryta has given a rare glimpse into his creative process behind his chart-topping hits and award-winning lyrics. Known for his ability to craft unforgettable songs, Mozy explained his process with a blend of humility and mystique.
Speaking out in an interview with our reporter, Mozy described his songwriting journey as almost spiritual.
"A song comes to me like the Holy Spirit," he said with a smile. "I can just be there, and a rhythm gets stuck in my mind. The next thing I know, I'm hitting the studio and writing the lyrics down." This seemingly magical process has led to numerous hits that have captivated audiences and dominated the airwaves.
Despite not being a singer himself, Mozy collaborates with a talented team to bring his demos to life. This team includes the vocalist Baqiyo, singer Buka Chimey, along with the production talents of Brian Beats and Puma Beats. Their combined efforts ensure that Mozy's songs not only come to life but also become instant hits.
Mozy's impressive portfolio includes a string of successful tracks for some of Uganda's biggest artists.
In 2024 alone, he has penned several hits, including "The Goat" by Pallaso and Weasel, and "Mutabaniwo" by Spice Diana and Karole Kasita. Each song showcases his unique ability to blend catchy rhythms with heartfelt lyrics, making them favorites among fans and critics alike.
